Twitter appears to be all the rage right now. In fact many social medias like twitter and facebook seem like a viable resource to do business to business marketing. Social media has evolved from MySpace, to Facebook to Twitter as a way to stay connected to family and friends. Business to business direct marketing has been trying to capture this trend and capitalize on it.So far, it has not been successful. Research done by Citibank reveals that business to business advertising with social media has not captured the small businesses throughout the world. Of the 500 organizations surveyed, 76 per cent have not found a way to make social media useful for their business. The research suggests that small business has not found a way to successful use social media as a means for profit.
That doesn’t sound positive. But is you like looking at the glass as half full rather than half empty, what is see is that 24 per cent have found a way to make social media work for them. The big deal about social media is that if you can figure out how to make it work for you is not about budget, but about creativity.
A small business by the name of Kogi BBQ travels around the Los Angeles are selling Korean tacos from their truck. Their Twitter following is now upwards of 45,000 built by tweeting where their truck was going to stop next. They were also successful in running a t-shirt competition campaign with their fans voting on the design for the t-shirt they liked best. A home grown business built from the ground up, Kogi BBQ to a mobile taco truck. A truck tweeting its way around L.A. was an angle that worked for them. End result: more sales equals more profit.

A small business in San Francisco, the Marsh Café was successful when they put a sign in the window that said the Mayor drinks for free. The offer on twitter read something like this:” Yey! You just got 2 dollars off any show we have tonight. Just show us the screen and we will hook you up.
